Michael has shared his insights into child development with us regularly over the last few years and knows the BSS community well. He has a deep understanding of the needs of parents today and gives us an outstanding opportunity to take full advantage of his far-reaching expertise by working with many of our students during the day, then with parents in the evening, He has consulted with more than 500 schools internationally and always leaves his audience excited with new knowledge and strategies on raising strong and responsible children. Along with psychologist Rob Evans, Michael is back in the halls of BSS on February 13 and 14 to work with students, faculty, staff and parents. Best-selling co-author of eight books, including Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children, Michael has appeared on the Today Show, the Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC’s 20/20 and CBS’s 60 Minutes. Congratulations to the BSS Bobcats and all their fans who came out to support at today’s game. It was a high energy event and all the hard work and dedication of our team paid off. For the third year in a row BSS Bobcats won against the Havergal Gators and took home the Foster Hewitt Cup. Way to go ladies!

This year the students created numerous ways to get involved including Hockey Day raffles, a BSS vs. Havergal junior school hockey game during intermission, Pep rally performances by the BSS choir, Stage Band, the UCC Drumline, and much more.

Jan Wong, the first of only two Westerners to study in China during the Cultural Revolution will be speaking to BSS students on Monday February 6 at 11:00 am. Jan will be speaking about the influences and impact on Chinese People as a result of the shift from Communism to Government run Capitalism.

Spencer West speaks to BSS students about making a difference

BSS is excited to welcome the very inspirational Spencer West, a Me to We speaker who has overcome many challenges and obstacles in his life to become a powerful influence on the youth of today. On Monday January 30, Spencer will be addressing the students of BSS in both the Junior and Senior Schools.

As part of Global awareness week the student committee would like extend an invitation to the parents of BSS. Please join us this Monday from 9:45 am to 10:45 am in the Warren Road Gym to hear Spencer speak with our Senior School.

Congratulations to the Grade 6 Girls who participated in the FLL (First Lego League) Robotics Competition. Please support their entry to get their fabulous invention patented as part of the FLL Global Innovation Award contest! Their RiceKept Safe Bowl will help people in developing countries, keeping cooked rice from developing a potentially serious bacteria from being left at room temperature.

Congratulations go out to the BSS Grade 6 Robotics teams who participated in this weekend’s First Lego League (FLL) Regional Championships at Crescent School.

The Rice Girls placed first overall in the competition, winning the Champion’s Award– an award that recognizes a team which embodies the FLL experience, by fully embracing the ‘Core Values’ of First Lego League while achieving excellence and innovation in both the Robot Game and Project.

The Berry Botics team won the  Strategy & Innovation Robot Award — an award which recognizes a team that used solid engineering practices and a well-developed strategy to design and build an innovative, high performing robot.

Both teams will advance to the Provincial Finals on January 14.
