Did you hear? Caitlin CRONENBERG ‘02 has been named Woman of the Week (June 28, 2010) by Women’s Post magazine. Read the article here. She was also featured in the Saturday Star, read the ‘Fashion, photography and the art of the nude,’ here.

June 8: Lifesaving program at BSS is the second-largest among ON Secondary Schools

Congratulations to the BSS Aquatic Department for all their valiant lifesaving and education efforts. In 2009 BSS’s Aquatic staff was commended for running the second-largest lifesaving program in an Ontario Secondary School. That’s no small feat! First place and the William Henry Memorial Cup was awarded to the Yorkland School.

June 5: Grade 4 girls keep the wheels on the ECOARTVAN project turning, June 9 at the AGO

We are happy to announce that an exhibition for the ECOARTVAN project has been composed of the works from Grade 4 students from BSS and across Toronto. The art created by these students will be exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario on June 9 from 5:00 -8:00 pm. This exhibition is an incredible opportunity for our artists and all their fans to come together. Please be sure to share in the celebration of these fantastic, beautiful works, created in the spirit of helping planet earth. May 31: BSS Environmental Council, teaching others with silver and green

Following a year of hard work, the BSS Environment Council is proud to announce that BSS has been awarded a Silver Certification according to Ontario EcoSchools criteria.

Thank you to everyone who made contributions this year helping students develop their ecological literacy, ability to act as an environmental steward, and improving BSS building operations to reduce our environmental impact.

May 27: Senior Girls win CISAA Tennis Championship!

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Tennis team for their first place standing at the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) Tennis Championship. The team worked hard all season to improve and played their best. The win was a first for BSS and the coaches could not be happier for their team. whoo hoo!!!

Pub Night is hosted by the Old Girls’ Association, and is a great opportunity to connect before the summer is underway. This is also an opportunity for Old Girls to say ‘farewell’ to leaving and retiring staff and faculty.

May 10: Winners at Hot Docs’ Doc it! showcase

Congratulations to Laura Orozco, Shaya Mulcahy and Savannah O’Leary for their participation in Hot Docs Doc it! 2010. The students’ films were selected by a jury and presented along with the work of 7 other students from across Ontario in a youth showcase at North America’s largest documentary festival on Saturday May 8.

Laura Orozco and Shaya Mulcahy, contributed Skipping Stone, a story about their classmate’s Dad’s recovery from a brain injury and Savannah O’Leary contributed Food Fight, an examination of the genetically modified food industry.

The screening was excellent and the girls’ work really stood out. Skipping Stone was selected as the WINNER of the entire showcase.
A very proud moment for all involved. Congratulations also go out to Angie Silverstein and Roarke Andrade, for their outstanding work and leadership of the girls.
