Old Girl Award

The Distinguished Old Girl Award (DOGA) is presented annually to an Old Girl who has made a difference in the lives of others by giving back to the community, contributing a great deal to her profession, showing tremendous leadership, or by leading through her exceptional contributions to the arts. At this year’s Heritage Dinner on April 19, 2012 the DOGA was presented to Andrea THOMAS Hill ’86.

In the early 1990s Andrea rallied local efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer that has turned into a yearly ritual for her and thousands across the country who Run for the Cure. In May 2007, Andrea launched Cause We Care Foundation, a Vancouver-based charitable foundation created by women for single mothers and their children in need.

Any individual or group from the BSS community, such as faculty, administration, students, parents, Old Girls, Board members, and so on, with firsthand knowledge of the nominee’s contribution is welcome to participate.

Your entry should include:

  1. Name of the Nominee
  2. Name of the Nominator(s)
  3. Your Relationship to the Nominee
  4. An explanation of how the nominee meets the BSS standard of excellence.

Your explanation should address the following questions: Why is this Old Girl worthy of consideration?  Describe her outstanding accomplishments in any or all of the following areas:  leadership, community involvement, personal accomplishments, and professional accomplishments. Provide your personal perspective on the candidate.  Please feel free to include any other supporting articles, website links, and so on.

It is also important to be as specific as possible in order to best present your nominee.  Decisions will be based on the information you provide.  A committee comprised of Old Girls, BSS faculty and staff will choose the 2013 recipient from the pool of candidates.
