Reporting on Student Progress

In addition to two formal report cards a year, we feel it is vital that parents and teachers have face-to-face opportunities to talk about student progress. The first parent-teacher conference happens early in the school year, close to the time when the child is transitioning into a new grade. The focus of this conference is the student’s “learning skills”. Skills such as collaboration, persistence, risk taking and organization form the foundation of the discussion.

The second conference is an opportunity to discuss student goals for the year. Students in Grades 2 through 6 set academic and social goals, which they revisit over that course of the year. When possible and developmentally appropriate, we choose to include the child in this dialogue, too. The third formal parent-teacher conference is a student-led conference where the girls share their portfolios with their families. The student reflects upon and presents the growth in their learning over the year.
