Summer Skills Programs:
The BSS Summer Skills Programs, for students entering Grades 8 through 12, have been designed by experienced teachers who know what students need to succeed in credit courses. The Summer Skills Programs consist of practical activities and exercises with ample opportunities for feedback from the teacher. These programs will provide a great opportunity for students to brush up on their Math, English or ESL skills before entering their next credit course.

MATH (One week program)
Essential Skills – This program covers material from the Grade 7 and 8 Ontario curriculum and is designed for those who would benefit from a review of some of the essential math skills such as: order of operations, integers, fractions, rates/ratio/percent, linear relationships.
Foundation Skills – This program reviews material from MPM1D and MPM2D. It is comprised mainly of an intensive review of algebra. Topics include: Linear functions, Quadratic functions, Systems of equations, Graphing, Factoring.
Application Skills – This program reviews material from MCR3U. It is designed for those who had difficulty applying the concepts from grade 11 and who wish to strengthen their understanding before beginning Advanced Functions (MHF4U). Topics include: polynomial and rational functions, exponential functions with an introduction to logarithms, trigonometric functions with an introduction to radians.
ENGLISH (One week program)
Essential Skills – This program focuses on critical writing and oral communication skills from the Grades 7 and 8 curriculum and is designed for students who would benefit from a review and further development.
Application Skills – This program focuses on key reading, writing, oral performance and research skills necessary to prepare students for Senior level English courses.
ESL (Two week program)
This program focuses on conversational skills, basic study strategies, essential grammar, and an introduction to Canadian culture. Students will work to improve core capacities to help them become more comfortable both in the academic setting and the community in general. The course will include field trips to points of interest in Toronto. (Extra costs will be incurred for field trips).
