The focus of the BSS Health and Physical Education curriculum is to help students develop a positive attitude towards physical activity and a commitment to healthy active living for life.
Students engage in a variety of physical activities that explore a wide range of movement skills using many indoor and outdoor facilities at BSS. The climbing wall, swimming pool and fitness center are some of the places where students can challenge themselves.
Research shows the incredible benefits of vigorous physical activity as a way to enhance learning. At BSS our students use heart rate monitors to help provide them with valuable and immediate feedback so they can design individualized fitness programs. In addition, all BSS graduates take an additional physical activity credit beyond the required grade 9 credit.
Our Health curriculum centers around helping students develop a personalized approach to healthy living. Students examine the factors that affect their own well-being and explore how to make informed choices through decision-making simulations. In addition to health classes, students progress through a series of self-defense modules to enhance their understanding of personal safety.
