Superhero Cellfies

Grade 8 students randomly selected a cell, such as a phagocyte or corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis cell, and researched the cell’s characteristics and functions.
They presented their findings to their peers, and wrote a magazine article describing the cell and reflecting on its impact beyond its basic function. Finally, they designed a “Superhero Cellfie” playing card, illustrating their understanding of their cell’s “super powers” through hand-drawn or digitally-drawn renderings, using programs such as Canva, Procreate and Google Draw. Students communicated their depth of knowledge about cells and living systems, and learned how cells impact the health of the greater systems in which they belong.
