Careers Breakfast Series
Our annual Careers Breakfast series offers the chance for senior students to hear from BSS alum who are actively working in industries they might be interested in pursuing.
Held monthly from January to April, this series features alumnae employed in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), business, communications, design, fine arts, architecture and the humanities.

Yvonne graduated from BSS in 2018 and is an incoming Software Development Engineer at Amazon. Through the wide variety of STEM courses and activities offered at BSS, Yvonne developed an interest in math and science, which inspired her to study statistics and computer science at the University of Toronto. During her undergraduate years, she completed internships in software and data engineering and conducted research in data science and statistical education. Yvonne is excited to start her career in tech and looks forward to sharing her journey.
Caitlin Maikawa ’11
Caitlin is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. At UofT, she is the principal investigator in the Maikawa Lab, a biomaterials engineering research group that is working on the development of new therapeutics and diagnostics for chronic diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease. She earned her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at UofT while playing for the varsity hockey team, and completed her PhD in bioengineering at Stanford University. Her postdoctoral training in medical engineering was at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Jennifer DAY ’07
Dr. Day is an Assistant Professor in Geological Engineering at Queen's University, and a licensed Professional Engineer and Professional Geoscientist in Ontario and New Brunswick. She specializes in rock engineering, geomechanics and engineering geology for design of mining, tunnelling and nuclear waste repository excavations, as well as analyzing the safety risk of potential landslides for geotourism and railways. She is President of the Canadian Rock Mechanics Association. In her spare time, Dr. Day enjoys a diverse range of hobbies from playing trumpet to CrossFit, as well as spending time with her family, friends and dog.
Allison Harris ’13
Allison graduated from BSS in 2013 and earned her B.S.E. in Operations Research and Financial Engineering from Princeton University, where she also competed as a NCAA track and field athlete. She began her professional career at J.P. Morgan in New York City, working in structuring and derivatives sales on the trading floor. Later, she moved to CIBC in Toronto, focusing on investment banking in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. This past year, she left the banking industry to start her own venture, Glassbox, a startup offering software to automate financial analysis in corporate finance transactions.

Tara Tomulka ‘06 - Rawcology, Founder & CEO
Tara Tomulka is a holistic nutritionist and the founder of Rawcology, a family-owned snack food company offering organic, low sugar and allergy friendly granolas and snacks sold at Loblaws, Sobeys, Farm Boy and other natural grocery stores. Tara trained at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition and developed and taught George Brown College’s first ever Raw Vegan Food course and Vegetarian Culinary Arts program. Prior to Rawcology, Tara worked in corporate communications and the entertainment industry. Tara holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University and a Masters of Communication Management from the University of Southern California.
Megan Tomulka ‘03 - Rawcology, Chief Marketing Officer, Head of Sales & Co-Owner
Megan Loach Tomulka is the Chief Marketing Officer, Head of Sales and co-owner of Rawcology. Megan completed her Bachelor of Commerce Co-op with a major in marketing management from Dalhousie University and completed a post-graduate Certificate of International Business from Swansea University. With over ten years’ experience in the designer womenswear retail world at Hudson’s Bay Company, Megan gained expertise in marketing, brand management, retail sales chain management, campaign strategy and creative direction. Megan joined the Rawcology team in 2018 and manages the brand strategy, business development, marketing and sales to help everyone live their happiest life through healthy eating.
Tiffany Ng ‘10 - Loopio, Senior Enterprise Customer Success Manager
Tiffany Ng has more than 8 years of client-facing experience and is currently a senior Enterprise Customer Success Manager at Loopio, a software company based in Toronto. Her educational background is in accounting and financial management at the University of Waterloo. She obtained her CPA during her international work experience at PwC in Bermuda and New York before returning to Canada in 2020. Beyond work, Tiffany loves to travel and bake, and is currently exploring the world of home organization and decor.
Stephanie Stevens ‘10 - Capital One Canada, Senior Manager, HR
Stephanie Stevens is a human resources professional working for an international financial services company in Toronto. Stephanie achieved her Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation in 2019 and has spent time in HR generalist, employee relations, HR operations and DEI roles throughout her career. Stephanie holds a Bachelors of Commerce from Queen’s University. In her free time, she loves to paint watercolours, travel, watch musicals, try new restaurants and see live music.

Shannon WOODS ‘09
Shannon Woods is currently an associate on the Development Team at Oxford Properties Group, a Canadian multinational corporation with operations in real estate investment, development and property management. At Oxford, Shannon is focused on underwriting residential, commercial and mixed-use projects such as the Canada Square development at Yonge and Eglinton and a multi-family rental development at Scarborough Town Centre. Prior to joining Oxford, Shannon spent six years working as an architectural designer in both Toronto and Singapore on a variety of mixed-use and hospitality projects. Shannon has a Master of Arts, Architecture from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from The Rotman School of Management. In her free time, she loves to travel and spend time outdoors with her husband Matt and golden doodle Cabot.
Christie LAU ‘06
Christie Lau is a multimedia artist based in Toronto specializing in painting, sculpture and developing mediums and their applications. She delights in minutiae, craftsmanship and sentimentality, and strives for her art objects and interior installations to be spun from these qualities. Lau is also the studio assistant and sculptor for a local multidisciplinary art studio that works with architects, interior designers and homeowners to enhance interior spaces through the use of custom artwork and bespoke finishing.
Alyssa JONGSMA ‘07
Alyssa is a user experience designer currently specializing in complex systems for enterprise software. Her winding creative journey started at BSS, with photography teacher Marilyn Westlake teaching her a love of the arts and inspiring her path to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since graduating from the Visual Communications program, she has worked across magazine print design, editorial photography, advertising and most recently, digital product design. Alyssa has worked as an independent freelancer, as well as for some of Canada’s largest corporations including Canada Post and Shopify.

Christina Turner ‘06
Christina is a negotiator for Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, where she works to resolve historic injustices against First Nations. Christina holds a PhD in English from the University of Toronto, an MA in English from the University of British Columbia and a BA (Hons) from the University of King's College. Christina's academic research focused on Indigenous literature and Indigenous law, and her interest in social justice and stories began with the humanities classes she took in the Senior School at BSS.
Joanne ARCHIBALD ‘10
Joanne is a historian, consultant, writer and business owner. She is the Founder and Principal Consultant at Livy Consulting, and a PhD candidate in Canadian Military and Political History at Queen's University. Since attending BSS, Joanne has been passionate about the past, and deeply believes in making history more interesting and accessible to a wider audience. After completing her undergrad at Queen’s and a Masters at the London School of Economics, Joanne worked at Historica Canada on the Heritage Minutes project. She then worked in marketing and events at Blakes before going back to Queen’s to begin her PhD and start her own consulting firm. In her spare time she volunteers with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, loves open water swimming and always reads the newspaper!
Lex HARVEY ‘14
Lex Harvey is a transportation reporter for the Toronto Star, covering public transit, infrastructure, road safety, the politics of transportation and related issues. Before that, she wrote about politics, fact-checking politicians during federal and provincial election campaigns. Lex has also reported on how the climate crisis is affecting Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago close to the North Pole, and once investigated a group of Canadian doctors prescribing a false COVID-19 cure for profit. Lex first joined the Star in 2020 to help develop First Up, the Star’s daily newsletter, which she wrote for two years. Lex’s love for journalism dates back to her time at BSS, where she served as editor of the Spectrum. She has a Master of Global Affairs degree from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University.
