Academic Explorations

Two months into the school year, our students are hard at work exploring, learning new skills and finding their voices. Discover the exciting learning happening in our classrooms every day.
  • In Senior Kindergarten, students have been exploring the 16-day journey of quail eggs, observing the life cycle firsthand. They learned about different animal habitats and designed potential homes for the chicks. After a week of incubation, students participated in "candling," a method using a bright light to see the veins and developing figures within the eggs. This immersive project introduced students to the design thinking process and inquiry skills as they pondered questions like, “What kind of habitat do chicks need to thrive?”

  • In Grade 6, students are actively preparing for their upcoming algebra assessment, focusing on critical skills like expressing prime factors, using exponents, solving equations and tackling complex problems. Working in groups, they’re hard at work reviewing concepts and refining their problem-solving strategies.
  • In Grade 7 social studies, students are exploring weathering, erosion and deposition by examining landforms like deserts, mountains, hills and plateaus. To deepen their understanding, they wrote about these landforms and illustrated how each is shaped by natural processes. By applying these concepts to their visual representations, students are building a stronger grasp of how landscapes transform over time.

  • In Grade 9 music, students are honing their skills on string instruments as part of the “What Does Music Mean to Me?” project. They've researched and practiced chosen pieces, working together to achieve a cohesive sound and supporting one another’s technique. This preparation leads up to a mock audition later this month, where they’ll demonstrate their growth and collaboration. We look forward to their winter performances and seeing their progress!
