Beyond the Classroom - Arts & Athletics

At BSS, learning happens everywhere. We encourage our students to explore their interests and abilities through a wide range of co-curricular activities. Learn about recent highlights from arts and athletics.
  • Dance, drama and music students are hard at work preparing for our Remembrance Day Chapel on November 7 at Grace Church on-the-Hill.
  • A group of drama students travelled to Stratford on October 25 to participate in the CIS Drama Festival.
  • Rehearsals are well underway for the Senior production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Junior School Fun Plus musicals.
  • From October 16-29, Anishinaabe artist Que Rock worked with Grade 10 visual arts students on a mural project exploring the relationships between humans and nature.
  • Renowned filmmaker and Indigenous storyteller Alanis Obomsawin visited on October 30 to speak to English, visual art, drama and social studies student about women’s voices in media, creative storytelling and the power of language.
While many championships are still ongoing, our teams had some impressive results at the end of league play this season.
  • In basketball, our U13, U14 and Senior teams finished first in the league. The U13 team is advancing to the CISAA semifinals and the U14 team is moving on to the finals next week, after exciting games against Branksome and Havergal last week. The U10 basketball team also finished on top in the final festival of their inaugural season.
  • In Senior cross-country, we have one runner representing BSS at OFSAA after placing third in the CISAA championship.
  • One Junior-aged swimmer on our Senior swim team placed first at CISAA. 
  • On the field, the Junior flag football team and the Senior Division 2 field hockey team both finished second in the CISAA finals. And after a fantastic season that saw them finish on top of the league, the U14 soccer team took home CISAA gold on November 1. Way to go!
