Our Global Learning, Service Learning and Outdoor Education programs enrich classroom learning with hands-on, real-world experiences.
These immersive experiences offer tangible curricular connections and practical engagement. Students make a real impact on their communities, both inside and outside the school.
Eighteen students pursuing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award embarked on a five-day canoeing expedition in Temagami Park, paddling more than 20 km and camping at three sites. Activities like camp set-up, fire-making and portaging built both skill and self-reliance. A walk through an old growth forest led by an Indigenous elder provided a meaningful connection to the land and its history.
Thirty Bronze participants explored Point Pelee National Park, hiking through local ecosystems and staying in yurts. They strengthened their collaboration skills and independence through group meal planning and cooking.
Sixteen students in Grades 7 - 9 recently earned a Global Citizenship Certificate through a six-week UNSESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute program. This self-paced course, combined with weekly teacher check-ins, nurtured leadership, ethical citizenship and empathy.
BSS recently hosted students from Melbourne Grammar School and Sacred Heart School (Tokyo), and upcoming exchanges will take BSS students to Japan, Australia, Buenos Aires and Paris. Living with host families, attending local schools and participating in cultural activities, students form lasting global friendships while developing intercultural awareness.
BSS students are also leading in sustainability. At the Global Education Benchmark Groups’ Student Climate Action Summit, five Middle and Senior School students collaborated with peers worldwide on environmental challenges. Inspired by the summit, they are now working to improve education and strategies around campus waste reduction, demonstrating how global dialogue fuels local action.
