National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Outdoor Chapel services included Indigenous prayers and reflections on the responsibility of settlers to work for justice. Middle and Senior School students heard from guest speaker Riscylla Shaw, a Bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto with Métis family roots, who spoke about justice as the basis of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. The co-heads of the student-led Indigenous Learning Circle offered thoughtful reflections on their relationship to the land and identities within a settler society. This learning was complemented by classroom discussions, a screening of the film Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair and a collection of resources shared by the Learning Commons. The learning culminated in a flag-raising ceremony on September 30, and a collective moment to reflect on our commitment to decolonization.
