John WHITTEN Miller '76 STEM Speaker - Amanda Buckiewicz

Last week, award-winning science journalist Amanda Buckiewicz visited BSS to speak with our Grade 11 and 12 students as supported by the Joan WHITTEN Miller ‘76 STEM Speaker Fund.
Amanda's work has appeared on BBC Earth, Discovery Channel, Smithsonian and CBC Gem. She shared her path into science journalism – a field that turns scientific research into accessible stories for the public. Now a producer at CBC Radio’s Quirks & Quarks, she shared valuable advice: learn to embrace rejection, be ready to adapt and ask bold questions. One powerful takeaway? Reframe your thinking: “What if it goes wrong?” to “What if it all works out?”

Thank you to Amanda for encouraging our students to stay curious and keep exploring!
